What is it about competition that brings out the beast in a person? Anyone who watched the Xavier/Cincinnati basketbrawl game last Saturday was witness to the ugly results when a rivalry gets out of hand and tempers flare. Schumacher Homes was involved in an athletic challenge December 9th, but no suspensions followed the event ~ although there WAS significant trash-talk before, during, and after the match!
I am known for being pretty competitive and no one enjoys going down in defeat. Our offices competed in a company-wide bowling tournament; our Operations group met at Park Centre Lanes for an informal luncheon; the other offices participated as well and emailed in their scores. The afternoon “rolled” along and followed up with a rousing number of strikes, spares, and, yes, a few gutter balls. The celebration featured a “Best Team Name” competition, periodic trivia questions, lots of fun, the previously-mentioned trash-talking, and there was also an “Ugly Sweater” contest.
Everyone had fun and no suspensions followed our competition; our work ethic attempts to provide an atmosphere of hard work mixed with a healthy dash of recreation for our employees, although for some detail-oriented people, dragging them away from the proverbial grindstone can be a challenge in itself! Signs throughout our Corporate office echo the phrase “Work Hard…Have Fun…Produce Results”!
