Nathan and Megan’s Homeowner Story: How Does Attending a Meet The Builder Event Help in the Construction Process?

As a 16-year active duty Marine family, moving was a part of life for Nathan and Megan. They were excited to learn about their latest move to the St. Tammany region of Louisiana where they planned to build a home. Their search process for a new home, like many, began online, but they steered towards Schumacher Homes rather early in the search as they had a family member who had built a home with Schumacher Homes a few years earlier, and they couldn’t recommend the experience enough to Nathan and Megan.

They decided that a trip to a Meet The Builder event was needed to help them with the process, and when the question was posed to the audience at the event that they attended in Akron, Ohio, “Who drove the furthest to be here today?” Nathan and Megan had it in the bag. They had driven all the way from New Jersey to Akron just to learn more about Schumacher Homes and tour the models at that location.

It isn’t unusual for people to journey from far and wide to our Meet The Builder events. Building a home is an important decision, often a once in a lifetime event, and not something to do without all of the relevant information at hand. People love our Meet The Builder events as it gives them the opportunity to learn about every aspect of the process from choosing house plans, to customization, to picking land, to financing, to the construction process, and everything in between. It’s a day for asking questions to builders about timelines and materials, financial experts about interest rates and loans, or just to mingle with other prospective buyers and gain a bit of insight on what others are searching to build. For Nathan and Megan, it was a moment to ask a few questions and, perhaps most importantly, to tour our model homes.

“It was so helpful to walk through the models!” they told our team. In fact, they completely changed their mind on the home that was right for them after having the chance to take a walk through the various models at our Akron, OH location. Originally believing the Olivia was the best house plan for their family, their minds were swayed to the Charleston once they saw it in person. As with many of our homeowners, they also wanted to incorporate several design and customization ideas as well after seeing the features that some of the other models displayed. They chose to add a cathedral ceiling to the master bedroom to create a more spacious feeling, a larger pantry to the kitchen to provide for all of the provisions it takes to raise a couple of young children, and the ever popular laundry room adjacent to the master bedroom as Megan knew she’d be spending quite a lot of time in there and wanted to keep it convenient. “I’m going to live out of that dryer,” Megan joked, thinking about her two boys, aged 6 and 12. She might be right!

Nathan and Megan, like all of our homeowners, had their own ideas about customization as they were moving from New Jersey to Louisiana. As a busy, military family, it was especially convenient to have the opportunity for an online design and pricing meeting with their New Home Consultant in Baton Rouge using our FrontDoor™ price quote system.

“The FrontDoor™ price quote was great to see everything in detail along with pricing, descriptions, and site costs. It gave us a good solid understanding of what we were able to build.”  -Megan & Nathan

Megan and Nathan are looking forward to living near their family and are grateful that their New Home Consultant was able to recommend a fantastic land realtor to help them look for the perfect lot for their new home. With the process in motion, they are anxiously awaiting their new orders for Nathan’s career so that they can begin the next chapter of their life in their brand new, custom home in Louisiana.
