Road Trip!

by John and Mary Schumacher on December 7, 2011

3200 miles in 15 days – this may not sound like much to an over-the-road hauler, but it is quite a trip when battling the traffic congestion produced by the Thanksgiving holiday! We made stops at our Carolina locations – Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Columbia, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh-Durham, and Wilmington during the past weeks, and it was quite an enlightening adventure!

Some of the miles were rather harrowing; being in the mountains in foggy, rainy conditions, on narrow, unfamiliar roads can be intimidating, especially when tractor-trailers are whizzing along. We were up to the challenge, however, and we enjoyed the trip immensely – over the mountains, through the piedmont, toward the ocean – every bend in the road revealed the spectacular vistas of autumn dressed in its vibrant foliage!

Everyone has heard of Southern hospitality and we were the grateful recipients of this tradition from the hands and hearts of some very happy Schumacher customers, the Barkers, who purchased the Beverly II B from our Greenville location. This wonderful couple, who heard that we were making the trip to our Carolina offices, graciously included us in a fabulous Thanksgiving feast. We enjoyed a family dinner with 22 guests who hailed from all over the country; among them were our own Lisa Wallis whose son Cory was visiting from Denver – and that was just the human guests. The festivities also included 10 four-legged canine family members, including our own teacup Yorkie children, Thurston and Lovey. We may have sat down to dine as strangers, but we parted as friends.

When we advertise customization, announcing that any floor plan can be modified to fit everyone’s needs and wants, perhaps we are using the wrong word; what we found in John and Marie’s case is more accurately described as personalization. From the over-sized garage to the full front porch, their home truly has been personalized to suit their individual wants and needs. Their property was absolutely breath-taking; acres of gorgeous farmland, sparkling, well-stocked lakes, and spectacular views!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving road trip; it was special to meet our customers face-to-face and we are grateful for the rapport that we experienced. It is further proof that our Schumacher Homes team members strive to provide service that goes a step beyond merely building a house; we create a home. We welcome John and Marie Barker as the newest members of the growing family circle of Schumacher homeowners!
